The Chengam SRO is part of the Vellore registration zone in Tamil Nadu's Registration Department. It serves 87 villages under its current jurisdiction. Every sale deed, gift deed, mortgage, and encumbrance certificate for properties within these villages is registered or retrieved through this SRO.
Properties located in any of the 87 villages below fall under this SRO for registration and EC purposes.
The Chengam SRO registers sale deeds, gift deeds, mortgages, partition deeds, settlement deeds, and lease deeds for properties located in the 87 villages under its jurisdiction.
It also issues encumbrance certificates and certified copies of registered documents going back several decades, all under the Tamil Nadu Registration Department.

The full list is published on this page and on the official TNREGINET portal. Jurisdiction is set village-by-village — properties on one side of a village boundary may fall under a different SRO than those on the other.
Registration is jurisdictional. If your property sits in any of the villages under Chengam, your sale deed must be presented at this SRO.
Filing at the wrong SRO will be refused. The same rule applies to gift deeds, mortgages, partition deeds, and any other instrument that requires registration under the Indian Registration Act.
Apply online via the TNREGINET portal at tnreginet.gov.in. Select Encumbrance Certificate (Form 15 for the standard certificate, Form 16 for nil), choose Chengam as the SRO, enter the registration village and survey number, pay the fee, and download the issued EC.
Walk-in applications are also accepted at the SRO counter. Processing typically takes 2–7 working days depending on the period requested.
A registerable sale deed, the title chain (parent documents going back 30 years where available), patta, chitta, latest property tax receipt, encumbrance certificate, ID proofs and passport-size photos of buyer and seller, PAN cards, and proof of paid stamp duty and registration fee.
Two witnesses must appear in person at the Chengam SRO at the time of registration. Power of attorney holders must produce the original notarised POA.
